Expectations can often lead to disappointment, and the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) will be no exception. In March, a court ordered the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) authorities to approve the change regarding cricket in the state, based on the Lodha Committee's recommendations.

However, rather than benefiting the JKCA, the BCCI reversed course and formed a three-member committee, which included two BJP leaders and one former cricketer, to seize control of the JKCA, effectively ending the state's cricketing prospects. JKCA had hoped for better news from BCCI after the Lodha committee gave the association new hope and vigour in March, but it was not to be.

Former cricketer Mithun Manhas will now join BJP spokesman Brigadier Anil Gupta and Sunil Sethi. This is a step backwards, given that it ended the work of the Court-Appointed Administrator retd. IPS officer Syed Ashiq Hussain Bukhari advised the BCCI to form a new committee to investigate the situation.

Now that the decision has been made, the three members elected will serve as interim members of the JKCA. However, former cricketers and academics have criticized the idea, claiming that it will not improve the game in Jammu & Kashmir.

Even the BCCI's selection of Manhas, they claim, is problematic because he has played more for Delhi than for Jammu and Kashmir. There are better players in Jammu, but the BCCI didn't go for it even though Jammu has a lot of skill.
