The Rajasthan Royals have been struck a major blow as their crucial player Jos Buttler has withdrawn from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, which begins on September 19 in the United Arab Emirates. Due to a busy calendar year, speculation was prevalent that England and Australian stars would be unavailable for the remaining 31 games. The BCCI considered talking with overseas boards.

And now, with the news that Buttler will be absent for the remainder of the matches, more and more players are likely to opt out. England has a tough calendar year ahead of them, with shorter forms and Test series against Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and India, respectively.

The Royals wicketkeeper-batsman said how the IPL usually does not coincide with other tournaments or bi-lateral international series. Still, the BCCI was forced to move the league to the UAE in September owing to COVID-19.

The England batsman also stated that the decision on players' involvement in the second half of the IPL is entirely up to Ashley Giles, director of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). He said, "[Will play] Where Ashley Giles says."

Giles has previously stated that England's player obligations will make it more difficult for them to compete in the league, as a T20 World Cup is also on the horizon, which will occur in October.

Buttler's moment in the spotlight came before COVID-19 put an end to the IPL, as he hammered a stunning century against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He responded to Alastair Cook's subtle jab at the batter, who ridiculed him for not reaching a century in the shortest format by smashing 124 off just 64 balls. That hundred was, by the way, Buttler's first in T20 cricket.
