A lady was arrested in Bangkok's Bang Kapi neighbourhood on suspicion of duping an Olympic gold medallist and her pals into investing in a lottery sale but failing to deliver tickets.

The cost of the damage was estimated to be more than 11 million baht.

Ms Parama Phitak, 65, was apprehended on Wednesday on Happy Land Sai 2 Road in Bang Kapi's Khlong Chan neighbourhood, according to Pol Col Bunlue Phadung Thin, chief of the Crime Suppression Division sub-division 2.

Lt Cdr Somluck and his associates were arrested after investing in a lottery ticket quota with Ms Paramee, who purported to be a lottery agent.

According to Pol Col Bunlue, the woman persuaded them that she could sell lottery tickets at a lower price than other agents who put up stalls in front of the Government Lottery Office.

The 1996 Olympic boxing gold medallist and his pals had put down ten million baht for the February 1 draw, and the woman had delivered the tickets in the first lot. Later, Lt Cdr Somluck and his pals paid 50 million baht for more tickets, but the woman failed to provide them as promised.

When requested to refund the money, the woman kept putting it off, claiming she was in talks with an investor who would.

The woman eventually repaid some of the funds, but they were still owed 11.75 million baht. She couldn't be reached after that.

On June 3, Lt Cdr Somluck and his friends filed a police complaint at Pak Kret police station in Nonthaburi.

The CSD launched an inquiry to find the woman. They eventually discovered she was hiding in the Bang Kapi district.

Ms Paramee denied defrauding the complainants during the interrogation. She stated she had tried to return them with money she had found. The police detained her to pursue legal action.
