Experts, commentators, and fans have been critical of Pakistan's surprising loss in the second T20I against England. If Shoaib Akhtar thought Babar Azam's decision to bowl first was weird, former Pakistan cricketer Intikhab Alam believes the decision to choose Azam as the all-format skipper was a mistake by the administration.

While his batting ability is undeniable, as evidenced by his career-best 158 in the third ODI against England, a few questionable decisions made while leading the team have enraged many former Pakistan players.

Intikhab Alam now discusses Azam's captaincy and why he should not have been named captain in all three forms. "I told Babar when he was named captain in both forms that this was not the correct thing to do. I believe he is under too much pressure as captain in both formats, even though he claims this is not the case. Only Test and ODI cricket should have been given to him if we intended to offer him the captaincy. In T20 cricket, there should have been another captain," Intikhab told Cricket Pakistan.

Despite the side scoring its most fantastic T20I score, the 26-year-old captain elected to bowl first in the second T20I at Headingly on a spin-friendly and slow wicket.

Earlier this week, disgruntled Pakistani supporters expressed their disappointment with head coach Misbah-ul-Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis for failing to influence the team. Alam has blasted the duo's performance, believing that Younis and Misbah have been unable to deliver consistent results.
