Bangladesh's Cricket Board (BCB) has named a 16-man squad for the
three-match T20 series against Pakistan.
Mahmudullah will lead the team in the absence of senior members like Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Shakib Al Hasan.
Due to a thumb injury, Tamim Iqbal is still out of the national team. The left-handed opener was also absent from the recent T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
Shakib Al Hasan, an all-rounder, will miss the series due to a hamstring injury he sustained midway through the competition. Mushfiqur Rahim, the wicketkeeper-batter, has been rested, while Soumya Sarkar, Litton Das, and Rubel Hossain have been omitted.
Bangladesh's performance at the 2021 T20 World Cup fell far short of expectations following an intense build-up. The team had won a historic series victory over finalists New Zealand and Australia at home before the competition.
Bangladesh was knocked out of the qualification stage. However, they could go to the Super 12s level. While they performed admirably against Sri Lanka, the Tigers' fortunes only worsened as the tournament went on.
They were eliminated after consecutive games with totals below 100 and five games with zero points.
