Bangladesh and New Zealand will face each other in a two-Test match series beginning on January 1st. The Bangladeshi squad has landed in New Zealand, and the Tigers are having a difficult time. Shakib Al Hasan had previously requested that BCB allow him to forgo this series, and the board had granted his request.

Rangana Herath, the Bangladesh spin bowling coach who travelled with the team, tested positive for Covid-19. As a result, nine Bangladeshi team members, including support personnel and players, have been asked to undertake a prolonged quarantine. BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Akram Khan verified the news.

Bangladesh has played New Zealand in 15 Test matches, but the former has yet to win against the Kiwis. Both teams will play the first Test at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui in the upcoming series, and the second Test will begin at Christchurch's Hagley Oval on January 9th.

On the 22nd and 23rd of December, Bangladesh will play an intra-squad two-day practise match. They will play another practice game against New Zealand A on the 28th and 29th of December.

In addition to Shakib Al Hasan, the visiting team will be without Tamim Iqbal, ruled out of the series with a thumb injury. In April, the left-hander last appeared in a Test for Bangladesh against Sri Lanka.
